Weekend Travel Hacks
Hi everyone!
Happy Wednesday!
I hope you had a fantastic weekend! I had a fall filled weekend with family and friends. It was just what the doctor ordered as we make our way through October. I enjoyed a bonfire, warm cider, and made a delicious apple crisp! Yum!
I also got to go apple picking, it was an unexpected treat too!
I have been doing some traveling lately and have some fun and hopefully helpful travel posts for you in the coming weeks.
Let’s get to the practical and then we will hit the fun!
If you have been following along for a while, you may have noticed that I have been taking weekend trips over the past year and a half to visit my fiance. We are currently doing long distance as he decided to go back to school to pursue a new degree and change careers. We are very excited for this new career and new beginnings too.
Arriving to my destination!
That being said, I always enjoy our time spent together whenever we get to see each other. Since we started long distance, I have learned a thing or two about traveling efficiently for weekends away when I go to visit him, especially when I am heading to the same destination.
My first time was a learning experience and I picked up a lot of travel hacks since then and I can’t wait to share them with you today.
Here’s what’s helped me when traveling to the same place for a weekend away.
- Keep a long standing packing list- I keep a note in my phone for packing and keep repeated items that I always know I need to bring listed (toiletries, snacks, chargers etc.) Even if I think I will remember it, I write it down and always check it off. For each individual trip, I will add things to the list tailored to the weekend (specific clothes, items to bring, gifts, etc). When the trip is over, I delete the stuff for the specific weekend, but keep the long standing items for the next time.
- Keep a long standing to-do list on your phone for ideas of your destination- Rather than bringing my planner, which I use daily. I write my daily to-do’s on my phone, these can be must-do’s of things I need to get done every day or they can be fun bucket list items too. I like to keep it handy so I always have ideas of things to do.
-Pack only the necessities- I overpacked my first visit, but now I know what I need. No extra outfits or things I may need or use, chances are, I won’t need or use them. But it is important that I pack an empty water bottle for the airport or snacks while I wait, or a jacket in case it gets cold.
My Simplified pouches keep me organized.
-Use the same bags and luggage- This makes it easier for keeping it simple and deciding once. On my first trip out, I used a suitcase and a purse, which was a bad idea! It wasn’t practical for flying and lots of walking. Now, I travel with a backpack and tote. The tote can fold up easily and the backpack frees up my hands. I also use a cross body that can be tucked into either bag.I always use the same toiletry bags and pouches from Simplifed that match my luggage but also are compact and lightweight which is convenient for travel.
My go-to bags!
-Take advantage of rewards and points. We tend to fly the same airline and decided to get a credit card to put our purchases on it to earn us rewards and points. We book flights early when fares are low and earn points when we spend which will turn into free flights! A win-win!
All ready to go for an early morning flight!
These are some travel hacks that I have gained over the past year and a half of traveling. I’m still a rookie and I’m always looking for ways to make travel more efficient. If you are a long-time traveler, what are some of your travel hacks?! Share them with me below! Happy travels and I’ll see you on Friday for another roundup of Friday Favorites!
