Orlando in a Day

Hello everyone!

Happy Wednesday!

I hope you are having a great week. It’s the first week of May, also know as my favorite month of the year! It’s my birthday month and summer is right around the corner. We have been enjoying some seasonal weather which makes me happy. Things are starting to bloom and we are finally enjoying spring. I love the start of warmer weather and consistent nice days.

Spring has sprung and everything is in bloom

Speaking of warm days, I had planned on sharing a post about a whirlwind of a 24 hour trip to a very warm place. I still plan on doing that today, but with some deeper meaning included too.

If you have been following along for a while, you may recall that my boyfriend and I like to take quite adventurous day trips. He does all the planning and organizing and we have an adventure in a day. Here’s some of our past adventures, we have done New York City in a day, Toronto in 24 hours, and Montreal in a day. But, our latest adventure, may be our most wild to date. We did Orlando in 12 hours.

Here’s how it happened. My boyfriend and I are currently doing long distance and I made plans to go visit him last month. I typically book my own flights, but this time, he wanted to book them for me. A few days before I was set to visit him, he sent me a packing list, which included clothes for warm weather. I had a feeling an adventure awaited. He told me what time my flight boarded, but didn’t send me the ticket until the night before.

I woke up bright and early the day of the trip and saw a ticket booked in my name to Orlando. I drove about two hours to the airport. My flight left at 5:30 and I was in Orlando before 8:00.

Up bright and early

Getting ready to board

After getting refreshed up, my boyfriend’s flight landed and we made our way through sunny Florida.

We rented a car and drove about an hour to Cocoa Beach, it was both of ours first time there.

The sun was gorgeous!

We grabbed lunch on the way and enjoyed the afternoon at the beach. We read, laid out, swam in the ocean, and took walks on the beach.

We spent time reading and relaxing

We have both endured a long winter filled with lots of snow, freezing temperatures, ice and rain, so getting away to the beach, even if it was just for the day was so welcomed.

The water was dreamy

After spending a day in the sun, we picked up dinner on our way back to Orlando and stopped at a local park to enjoy dinner and a walk before making our way back to the airport.

Dinner and a walk with a view

We where we dropped off our rental car and flew back to Boston where I spent the rest of the weekend.

Making our way back to the airport

It was a short, but a whirlwind of a day trip to the sunshine state and much needed for both of us to enjoy warm temperatures.

Landing in Boston

I had planned to take lots of photos, but most of the day was spent being present and not on phones or devices and it was so refreshing to not be connected all the time.

A hidden oasis

This trip was such a good reminder that there is more to life than taking selfies, nature pictures, and photos of food. I think sometimes we get so caught up in taking photos or videos to remember things that we aren’t being truly present in the moment. This is something I want to do a better job at, being present with what I am doing and who I am with as opposed to documenting the experience. I do a pretty good job with this with friends, but can do a better job with family or my boyfriend.

I had such a wonderful time in Orlando for a day and really felt present with what I was doing and didn’t miss not having my phone or checking my email. I can’t always not be connected, but for a few hours, it was magical and I want to do this more often, put my phone down and be present.

This will be a challenge, but, I’m ready for it. What ways do you try to be more present and put your phone down? I would love to know. A little bit of adventure and a bit of a reflection in today’s post.

I hope this post gets you thinking about positive changes you want to make in your life. Happy Wednesday!

Some positivity to end this Wednesday post!
