Fort Lauderdale in Less Than 12 Hours
Hello everyone!
Happy Wednesday! I hope you had a great start to your week. We are halfway to the weekend and more than halfway through April.
We love spring-y days in April!
My oh my, this month is flying by between Easter, visits from family, spending extra time with friends, and a visit to New England, it’s been a packed month and we are only halfway through.
I mentioned a few weeks back that I made a visit to New England to visit my fiance. I was only there for a few days but we packed a lot in, including a day trip to Florida, yes, a day in Florida!
If you have been following my blog for a while, you may recall my fiance LOVES to plan crazy day trips, most of which are surprises to me.
Since we started dating, we have done New York City, Toronto, Montreal, Orlando, Cape Cod, and Washington D.C. all in a day. These days feature little sleep, are fast paced, on the go, and so fun.
When I went to visit my fiance a few weeks ago, I thought we were spending my short trip of two days in New England, but I was wrong.
Spring in New England
I got woken up early on Friday morning at 3:30 to my fiance telling me we were spending the day in Fort Lauderdale and to get ready.
Travel outfit
We were out the door and in an uber before 4:00 to make our flight at 5:45, unfortunately, our flight was delayed so we didn’t leave until 8:30 a.m.
Sunrise at the airport doesn’t get any better
We each had a backpack, we bathing suits, beach gear, things to do on the plane, and some snacks, only the essentials.
Some reading for the plane
We arrived in Fort Lauderdale to sunshine and 80 degrees before noon.
Hellooooo Florida!
We took a quick uber ride to Dania Beach and parked ourselves there for the day.
Sandy beaches that weren’t crowded
We grabbed lunch at a beach bar, when in Florida, I had to enjoy some fish tacos.
After lunch we found spots and enjoyed the beach for the afternoon and evening. We went on beach walks, jumped in the waves, and lounged and read on the beach.
Our spots for the day
After a frigid winter, less than 12 hours in Florida was worth it.
As the sun was setting, we cleaned up and walked back into town where we got ice cream and dinner before making our way back to the airport. We had less than 12 hours in the sunshine state, but it was worth every second.
Goodbye Florida!
It was definitely crowded for a Friday night at the airport. We had a slight delay with our flight getting back to New England, but made it back around 1:00 a.m., I got a few hours of sleep before getting up at 5:00 a.m. to leave for the airport for a 6:45 a.m. flight back home.
To put it in perspective of the turnaround, In 12 hours, from 9:30 p.m. to 9:30 a.m., I went from Fort Lauderdale, to Boston, to Cleveland, and then drove home.
It was quite a whirlwind, but so worth the time in the sunshine.
I am such a planner that these trips bring me so much joy since I don’t have to plan anything and I just enjoy the ride.
If you are looking for a sign to take a trip or pull the trigger on something you have been thinking about doing, this is your chance. Book the trip and take the adventure. You will be happy you did.
I promise you, my life isn’t all 24 hour adventures, it’s work, reading, going to the gym, cooking, and cleaning, but these trips are some of the best highlights of my life and I am looking forward to a lifetime of them.
That’s how we did Fort Lauderdale in less than 12 hours, I’ll see you back here on Friday for another Friday Favorites!
