Honeymoon Travel Diary

Hello hello! Happy Wednesday!

I hope you have been having a great week!

Today’s a travel post for you as I’m sharing a glimpse into my time in Europe last week!

I love doing travel posts for you about trips big and small! My now (husband!!) does a phenomenal job at planning trips.

We have done 24 hour trips in the past to NYC, Orlando, Toronto,Montreal, Fort Lauderdale, Cape Cod, and D.C.

He recently planned our biggest trip to date, Europe.

I have even to Europe before. I have been to Italy three times. You can read about my trips in college here and here .

Then I went two years ago, you can read part one here and part two here.

My husband and I are on the go people so we packed a lot in for this trip.

Day one: Travel Day- New York

We left immediately following our reception and drove about three hours to our bus station.

We woke up early for our first day, ate breakfast, and took it easy by heading to church and then to our bus station where we got a ride into NYC.

Our first stop in the city was dinner, pizza by the slice was an obvious choice.

We made our way to JFK and boarded an overnight flight to London! On the flight, I read, watched a movie and slept and before I knew it, we woke up at the London Heathrow Airport.

Day Two: London, England

We hit the ground running for our day in London.

After going through customs, I had to take a shot of the arrivals gate from the scene in Love Actually.

We took the Heathrow Express to Paddington Station.

We dropped our bags at our hotel and went to St. James Square.

We then made our way to Buckingham Palace.

I was in heaven being at a place that I had seen on tv for years! So iconic.

We then made our way towards some of the top sights.

I made sure to take a photo by the red telephone booths.

We went to Trafalgar’s Square and then to the National Gallery and saw a handful of Renaissance pieces.

We stopped by the Prime Minister’s home and Downing Street and then enjoyed some afternoon tea!

A favorite moment of the day.

We then hit the big sites like Big Ben, the London Eye, Westminster Abbey, and Parliament, and the High Courts.

After seeing some of the top sights, we took the Underground and went to Kensington, where I got to see Kensington Palace and the Sunken Gardens and Diana Statue.

I was in near tears.

We then continued onto Notting Hill where I saw the book store and blue door from the movie.

I was in heaven.

We enjoyed fish and chips for dinner Before making our way back to our hotel. What a day! We packed a lot in, but it was so worth!

Day Three: Brussels and Brugge, Belgium

We were up early for a train to Brussels. It was about a two and a half hour ride through the English, French, and Belgium countryside. We arrived in Brussels, dropped our bags at a locker for the day and then hopped on another train for an hour ride to Oostende, a seaport town.

We walked around the town and got some Belgium French fries for lunch along with burgers. Belgium is known for three major foods, fries, waffles, and chocolate and it was my goal to try each food that every country is known for. The Belgium fries were good, but not as good as the fish and chips in London.

After lunch, we took a tram to the beach and spent the afternoon swimming in the North Sea. We went in the water, laid out, and went for a walk.

After a few hours in the sun, we cleaned up and then took the train to Brugge.

It was about an hour trip. I LOVED the town. It’s exactly what you think you would find in a small European town.

There were rivers, and canals, small bridges, and so many flowers! We took a canal ride that brought us all over the town.

After our tour, we popped into little chocolate shops and stores in the town. I made sure to pick up some Belgium chocolate for the journey home.

We stopped to indulge in a Belgium waffle for dinner.

We got out layered with strawberries and chocolate. After taking in the sights one last time, we boarded our train back to Brussels where we picked up our bags.

Then we continued on to our hotel near the airport since we had an early morning flight. We did enjoy the last of our Belgium chocolate before calling it a night.

Day Four: Chamonix, France

We were up bright and early to catch a flight from Brussels to Geneva. We enjoyed croissants at the airport before flying to Switzerland for a day in the Alps.

Once we arrived in Geneva, we took an hour and a half bus to Chamonix, France.

It was beautiful to see the huge mountains just feet and miles away. Once we arrived in Chamonix, France, we got lunch at an Italian restaurant. We split a pizza that hit the spot!

After a hearty lunch, we then went hiking on the ground near some waterfalls. It was beautiful, then came the big adventure of the day, seeing the mountain up close!

We took a gondola to the first part of the mountain, Mont Blanc and walked around a bit, then we took a second one up to the top of the mountain and saw the whitecaps.

It was simply stunning!! The temperature dropped, but seeing snow in August in the French Alps was truly a once in a lifetime experience that I’ll never forget.

We spent about an hour and half up in the mountains before making our way down.

This came just as rain hit. We did some shopping and grabbed dinner and then made our way back to the bus to the Geneva airport to grab our bags before hitting our hotel for the night. We had an early start the next day.

Day Five: Paris, France

We were up way too early to catch an early flight. We grabbed breakfast at the hotel before making our way to the Geneva airport to fly to Paris, France!

This day I was most excited for! This was my favorite days of the trip and maybe of my whole life!

I have been dreaming about going to Paris since I was a young girl, so today lived up to my expectations and beyond.

After dropping our bags off to our hotel, we took a bus and subway into the city. Our first stop?

The Arc de Triompe and then the Champs de Elysee.

We walked past some of the most high end luxury stores and I even picked up a little something for myself at Longchamp.

We continued onto the Grand Palais, the Place de Concord, the Tuileries Gardens, the Olympic flame/ ball and the outside of the Lourve.

It was incredible to see it in person! Then we stopped for crepes on the way to Notre Dame. We got a sweet and savory and got to watch them make it in front of us! Yum!

Notre Dame was breathtaking after its rebuild.

We were able to spend time both inside and outside the church.

We went to Confession and lit a candle for our marriage.

It was a hot one through the day with temperatures in the 90’s. We did our best to stay cool, but it wasn’t so easy!

We then made our way to the Latin Quarter where I got to see some of the locations where they filmed Emily in Paris!

I got to see her apartment, Gabriel’s restaurant, and the fountain! I was in heaven, my husband didn’t understand why we had to see so many doors on this trip, lol!

After the Latin Quarter, we made our way to the peak of the trip-seeing the Eiffel Tower!

When I saw it for the first time, I cried. After reading and watching about it for years, I couldn’t believe I was seeing it for myself. So many movies, tv show, books, storylines in my life have included Paris and now, it’s part of my story.

We spent more of the evening in the park, walking around and taking it in. I could have stayed there for hours.

We went to a nearby bakery and market and picked up items for a picnic and had a picnic dinner by the Eiffel Tower.

We walked around until the sunset and got to see it all light up.

A truly once in a lifetime moment for me. I don’t think anything could top this day!

Day 6: Paris, France We slept in a bit today, but still were out the door by 10 am.

Since today was our final full day in Paris, we wanted to make the most of it.

We dropped our bags and our first stop was the Gare Nurod, the main train station in Paris.

It’s also the place where Chuck and Blair have an emotional scene in Gossip Girl, so of course, I made my husband take my photo there. After we left the station, we went to a cafe across the street for breakfast.

A croissant and hot chocolate. It was delicious!

Then we made our way to the Sacre Coeur (or Sacred Heart Church). It was on top of a hill with some incredible views of the city of France. We went inside and looked around and lit a candle for our marriage.

We then picked up a baguette and a croissant and continued on our journey.

We popped into some souvenir shops on our way to Moulin Rouge.

We then went on to see the Phantom of the Opera, Opera House.

While we couldn’t go in, we did get some views from the outside.

We picked up some snacks for the airplane and then made our way to the airport where we said goodbye in Paris, with hopes of returning one day.

That’s a wrap on our European honeymoon!

We packed a lot in! From early mornings, and late nights. It was an adventure of a lifetime and I’m so grateful to my husband for planning it all!

Where should we go next?! Let me know in the comments below! Happy Wednesday friends!
