Let's Look: Wellness

Hello everyone! Happy Wednesday! We are making our way through May, also known as my favorite month of the year.

I had a busy weekend celebrating my brother’s graduation and Mother’s Day. We enjoyed lots of family time which I don’t take for granted.

What a celebratory spread. I love seafood and this salad was delicious!

I was also able to get out for some much needed sunshine this weekend!

It was a beautiful weekend!

It’s the second Tuesday of the month which means it’s time for another Let’s Look as I link up with ith Shay and Erika!

Here’s the topics we have covered so far this year.

In January, we talked about Low Level Goals

In February, we chatted about How We Maintain Relationships

In March, the topic was about How We Reset for the Week

In April, we covered Maintaining Friendships

This spring season, the topic for this month is Wellness. If there’s one thing I have become passionate about is health and wellness. I try my best to live a healthy lifestyle filled with things that bring me joy and make me feel my best, body, mind, and soul. When I think of the word wellness, I think about living a healthy lifestyle filled with balance and moderation. Every day, I try to incorporate healthy habits in my lifestyle, these things range from food, movement, and personal hygiene.

This month, I have been participating in Mix and Match Mama’s challenge to Walk Every Day in May, it doesn’t matter how long or short the walk is, and if it’s inside or out, what matter is that you get the walk in. I have been loving this challenge and it has encouraged me to get outside and get my steps in.

One way I like to hold myself accountable is by using the Simplified Habits Tracker. This is a little notepad for every day of the month, that you can fill out with habits you want to start. These don’t have to be health or wellness related, just any habit you want to begin and stick to. I personally use my habit tracker for health and wellness. It’s as simple as writing down your habits and checking them off throughout the day. You can change them month by month or keep them consistent month to month.

This habit tracker has been a huge help with keeping me on track with my health goals.

Here’s my current health and wellness habits. Every day, I like to have hot lemon water in the morning and at night, sometimes with tea and sometimes by itself. I’ve learned this helps with digestion, plus it helps with my daily water intake. I don’t have a set goal for water every day, but I do drink a lot of water.

I love starting my day with a warm drink

In addition to my regular hair routine, I use rosemary spray in the morning and night for hair growth and strengthening.

I also try to make sure I use collagen and my daily vitamins. I take collagen for hair, nail, skin, and joint strength, per my doctor.

Besides washing and moisturizing my face every day with some face creams, I try to put on sunscreen every day to protect my skin from harsh rays, especially since I am fair skinned.

I also like to make sure I stretch and get in 30 minutes of movement every day. Movement for me looks different every day, sometimes it’s a lift at the gym, other times, it’s a long run, maybe it’s just a short walk with a friend or it’s a yoga class. I aim to get at least 30 minutes of some kind of movement every day, plus, no matter what I’m doing, I like to do some stretching to loosen my muscles and body.

A day involving movement is a good day.

Besides my habit tracker, other ways I like to put my health and wellness first is by trying to get outdoors every day.  I always like to get some fresh air when I can. In the spring, summer, and fall, I love to get outside as much as I can whether it’s for a walk, run, or even reading. Having two dogs also keeps me busy as they love to get outdoors, even in the winter months, getting out for some fresh air does wonders for all of us.

There's never a bad day to get outside

Wellness also looks like nourishing my body. I try to eat a balanced diet. An ideal day would feature fruits, vegetables, protein, lots of water and something sweet. I try to have lots of color on my plate, some days, it happens, other days, it doesn’t but I try not to let myself get stressed out over it, it’s all about balance.

Lastly, I would be remiss, if I didn’t fill my own cup when it comes to wellness. To me, filling my own cup includes journaling, prayer time, meditation, and reading every day. These are little things I like to do everyday that make me feel like me.

Self care above all else

I feel my best when I ease in and out of my day with my morning and evening routines, get in some movement and nourish my body. Plus, it doesn’t hurt to be positive, be surrounded by family and loved ones, and have a productive and fulfilling day.

This is what wellness looks like to me, what does wellness look like to you? I would love to know how you interpret it?

Have a wonderful, wellness Wednesday and I’ll see you back here on Friday for Friday Favorites! See you then!
