Let’s Look: Things We Miss

Hello everyone!

Happy Wednesday! I am currently out of town this week, so I must admit, I wrote this post in advance. I try to keep all my posts up to date, but sometimes, I have to work ahead and this was one of those times.

Thankfully, this was an easy post to que up. I am linking up today, like I do every second Wednesday of the month with with Erika and Shay

In January we chatted about Things We Outsource Without Regret

In February, we talked aboutWays We Are Turning Into Our Parents.

In March, we shared about Favorite Family Vacations

In April, we talked all about The Hardest Things We Have Done.

In May, the topic was all about Making Couple Friends

In June we talked about Things We Are Making More Time For

In July, we chatted about Our Summer Selves and How It’s Different.

This month, we are talking about the things we miss. I really love this topic because I really think it encourages us to reflect on the past, how far we have come, but also things we have missed.

Here’s a few things that I genuinely miss in life:

The Carefree Summer Days: As summer winds down, I am reflecting on a fun, but busy summer. As an adult, you don’t have that line anymore between the school year and summer. The seasons and days blend and flow from one to another. While I do plenty of fun things in the summer outside of work, I do miss the days of swimming all day only to stop for a picnic lunch in the grass, followed by popsicles, more playing outside, grilling for dinner and s’mores for dessert. I miss the activities of running from park to park, playing in the sprinklers, and losing track of time. I love where I am at in life, but, boy do I miss being a kid sometimes.

Not Being Tied to Technology- This goes along the lines of missing childhood, but I miss the days when we weren’t all glued to our phones. Even when I write this or you read this, we are using technology. Growing up, we only watched tv at night and on weekends, now, we are surrounded by screens, whether it’s through phones, tablets, computers, or screens. I feel like I can’t get away from technology, social media, and information. I try my best to lean into analog hobbies or activities, but it’s something I want to continue to work on. I miss the days of playing, reading, and using my imagination.

Family and Friend Togetherness- The older I get, the more I miss my people. I am so blessed that I still live at home and have a great relationship with my family and I see my siblings who have moved away often, but I do miss all of us being under one roof. Whenever we do get together, whether for a big event or simple getting together, it’s always a chaotic, fun time, but I do miss the everyday moments of being together. The same goes for my friends, I am so lucky I have such wonderful friends, but we are all spread out. I love and cherish the meet-ups and time together, but I miss being closer in distance with some of my closest friends.

Not as Many Options- Does anyone else feel like there are sometimes too many options in life or choices to make? Even the simplest decision of what to read or watch, I feel like the amount of options to pick from are overwhelming. I miss the days when we were limited to only a few choices to pick from. The same goes for food, we have so many options to choose from for types of food, style, flavor, price point, that it makes the decision process even more stressful. I miss the days of fewer options.

Lower Prices- This is a VERY adult answer, but I miss the days of lower prices. It seems like everything is more expensive, from practical items to splurge items. It seems like no matter what you purchase, you are paying a pretty penny for it. I totally understand this happens in a changing economy, but it doesn’t make it any easier. With adulting also comes with more responsibilities and sometimes, I miss the days of not as many responsibilities and commitments, once again, I miss childhood.

I’m sure there are hundreds of more things I am missing about life and childhood, but these are the ones that come to mind. As you get older, what are some things that you miss and wish you could get back. This was a fun exercise to look back on and recall the “good old days.”What would you add to your list?

I’ll see you back here on Friday for another edition of Friday Favorites!
