Let’s Look: Things We Have Outgrown
Hello everyone! Happy Wednesday! I hope you are having a great week as we make our way through October. Fall is in full swing over here. I just finished a fun fall weekend with my husband visiting and I have another fun fall weekend ahead with my brothers visiting. Needless to say, a lot of fun, fall festing is in store.
Here’s the topics we have covered so far this year:
In January we chatted about Things We Outsource Without Regret
In February, we talked aboutWays We Are Turning Into Our Parents.
In March, we shared about Favorite Family Vacations
In April, we talked all about The Hardest Things We Have Done.
In May, the topic was all about Making Couple Friends
In June we talked about Things We Are Making More Time For
In July, we chatted about Our Summer Selves and How It’s Different.
In August, the topic was about about The Things We Miss
In September, the topic was Free Things That Brings Us Joy
This month, we are sharing about things we have outgrown. I’m not going to lie, I had to do some thinking about this topic. There are a lot of surface level things I have outgrown, but I am going on a deeper level today.
Here’s some things I have outgrown or given up
Bad TV- I used to be more of a mindless tv watcher. If something was on I would watch it just to watch it and I really wasn’t focused on it. Now, there’s so many shows and movies and content to consume that I am more selective with what I’m watching. I also have more things that I want to do and wasting my time watching mindless tv is not one of them. So if I’m making the choice to watch a movie or a tv show, I want it to be something that I want to be watching and spending my time doing.
Clothes That Don’t Fit Me- I used to hold onto clothes or accessories for years whether I outgrew the style or literally outgrew them because I hated getting rid of them. I would still donate the clothing articles, but I would feel bad about spending the money in the first place and not wearing the clothes. Now, if a piece of clothing doesn’t fit me or my style or I dread putting it on, I add it to the donation pile or I throw it away. Things aren’t worth keeping if we don’t feel good in them.
Feeling Guilty about Staying In- Going out and drinking has never been my scene. I would rather have a cozy night in or an earlier night out with a small group of friends than a night out past midnight drinking and going to bars. Some people may like that scene, but it’s not for me. I used to feel bad about turning down going out or I would go out and not have fun, now, I say no to things that I don’t want to do and yes to things that bring me joy and I don’t feel guilty about it. My friends and family know what’s my speed and what’s not. Don’t get me wrong, I will stay out late for a sporting event, show, dinner, or visiting friends, but I would rather be in bed early and happy, than in bed late and stressed.
Being Trendy- Another thing that I used to really be all about was sticking with the trends, wearing the latest styles, buying the coolest products, and trying to keep up with the crowd. The older I have gotten, the more I know what I like and what my style is and how I want to present myself. Don't get me wrong, I still keep up with latest hot items and topics and will still occasionally indulge in new things, but I don't give into or feel the pressure as much to keep up with the crowd. This has been a been such an important lesson to learn as an adult.
These are just a few things that I have outgrown through the years. There’s probably a dozen things I am missing, but these are the top things that come to mind. What are some things that you have outgrown through the years? Let me know in the comments below!
Happy Wednesday! I’ll see you back here on Friday!
